You shouldn't worry to much about the white balance in the camera. Take a gray card or a WhiBal as reference, shoot in RAW (if possible), and adjust the WB afterwards (but don't use auto WB when you do it this way). Think this macro could use a B&W conversion and a square crop.

Somehow this doesn't work for me, the bird on the backgound doesn't seem much like a color on color, it seems just like a natural setting...

While this is a nice shot, this doesn't meet the objective at all. The bird is gray and white, and the water isn't really either of those colors.
