Abstract with seasonal vegetablesby Rino63Comment by ellamay: Greetings from the Critique club
NOw here is a unique idea. What I think really works is your use of COLOR! nice choices, strong diagonal line in the picture adds good focus and compositional element to the pic. I do wish your green stem is it, were a bit sharper and I wish the whole image was a little darker (i.e. exposure) I think it would of added a little mystery to your veggies. I also find the dark along the left top a little distracting and may like to see a tighter crop.

Ibiscusby Rino63Comment by ellamay: Hi greetings from the CC
The biggest flaw with this photo is that the little yellow part (stamin, i think it is called) is out of focus and the light on the petals behind, the 'white light; is too distracting from the 'focal point' of the image.
Generally with flowers you need to get the center part tack sharp.
What I do really like about your shot is the black background, helps your subject stand out, makes the color scream 'wow' and makes the whole shot dramatic.
hope that helps!
Lynn

Ibiscusby Rino63Comment by alien2thisworld: I absolutely love the idea for this shot. The shallow DOF is great, though I think it is a little too shallow here since the very tip of the stamen is out of focus. The frame feels a little intrusive to me. If it were backed off to within 5 pixels of the side I think it would look better. |

Ibiscusby Rino63Comment by dsidwell: Nice macro! I like this point of view, and the light used. It might be good to have had the entire central stamen system in focus. |

As the dancers to the end of the danceby Rino63Comment by atupdate: The focus on the insect is pretty good but the little fellow sure didn't cooperate with his pose. Here are a few suggestions you might want to try to see if they improve this image. It might be possible to remove the lighter green areas of the background if you used a square crop. This would help eliminate a couple of distractions that draw a person's eyes away from the main subject. You may also want to try to bring out some detail in the body of the insect by playing around with levels. You made a pretty decent capture; however, the competition was pretty tough this challenge. |
