A castle once...by McJamweaselComment by ryand: I actually like the high contrast in the shot, however it blew out the sky, maybe trying underexposing and then brightening the stones later in post processing. I think the reason it didn't do all that well in voting is that some people are opposed to high contrast shots such as this, I personally like them every once in a while and think it works well here. |

Oh, to be aged 7-12 again.by McJamweaselComment by ryand: Very creative idea, and i like having the focus on the lego man, the lighting is a bit too harsh here though, maybe trying to light from the side. Adding some softer lighting would help a lot here, also adding a solid background of white or black would add a lot to the shot, very creative though. |

13-01-08-100.jpgby McJamweaselComment by ryand: This is really neat, love the lighting, cool composition as well. This also could have been entered into the "framing" challenge had you lowered your point of view just a bit to have the bushes climbing all the way up your photo. This is a very neat shot, and i really like the stuff going on behind the building. |

Old boat-houseby McJamweaselComment by ryand: This is a neat photo and could have been entered into the "framing" challenge. A few things that would add a lot to it would be making it a bit brighter and maybe adding a little bit of contrast. Very interesting building. |

On the edgeby McJamweaselComment by ryand: I also like the composition, really neat texture to the building as well, one negative to it is that the sky is a little blown out, which my best advice would be to underexpose the shot when composing, then brighten just the foreground in editing. Very neat shot. |

On the edgeby McJamweaselComment by BAMartin: The composition here is quite strong, but the focus seems a bit soft. I certainly wish you had some exposure detail in your photographers comments, might help the commenter's. |

A castle once...by McJamweaselComment by McJamweasel: Originally posted by FrankRobinson: Can I ask (out of curiosity) why you used such a high ISO? I also have a Canon 400D and on the couple of occasions that I have been forced to ISO 1600 (indoor sports / really gloomy wedding etc) the noise has rendered the shots really hard to PP. Outside I would not have thought that it was necessary?
Cheers! |
A bit of a cock up really, I'd been shooting indoors the night before and didn't reset the ISO, probably because it was so windy up there and was beginning to rain so I was in a bit of a rush. Luckilly it didn't cause too much in the way of noise.
It is quite heavily USM'd, I know that it's not an effect that is to everyones taste but I quite like the the definition that it brings to the brickwork. |

Silver Liningby McJamweaselComment by geoffb: So simple, but I always love seeing these shots (though I never seem to have my camera for them!).
Very nice colours and composition. The foreground is a bit repetitive and doesn't serve to help the image too much, but there's not too much that could be done about that. Not bad at all! |
