My Turn to Playby UrfaKComment by atupdate: Back to comment. For an image that was set up, the execution of the concept is not as well executed as I would have liked to see. First, the background makes it look like this was taken on a metal countertop. This in turn leads me to think that the fingers are holding the cleaver up. Second, the image has a lot of noise. This contributes to a flat overall appearance. Third, the bright object in the upper right corner is a distraction. |

The Lady in Blackby UrfaKComment by Tej: >>... the blue colour gradient across the back ground
This might be possible when your subject is lit by light bulb (yellow light) and the background is not lit by same light. This might confuse your camera to choose white balance for tungsten (did I spelled it right?) light and thus giving blue tinge to background.
Well, you seriously don't need to have studio for "studio shots". All you need is plain background (any wall or cloth will do) and creative lighting. All I use in my studio shots (and their are enough in my portfolio) is light from simple light bulb hanging on free cable (so that I can move it to position ogf my choice). Sometimes computer monitor can also serve as very creative and different background.
Anyway, this is good try. Black on black is a difficult situation. You also need to work on placement of your subject. Check out on rule-of-thirds.
Photoshop is great, but its not easy. Fiddle with Picasa before getting into local editing with photoshop. I still manage 90% (or even more) of my processing on Picasa. Message edited by author 2006-08-02 05:47:48. |

The Lady in Blackby UrfaKComment by cislander: Another entry used Black on Black really effectively. This one without the title would be difficult to discern. 5 |

Climbing Linesby UrfaKComment by jdannels: Urfa,
Thanks for your coment on my Beach entry and I thought I would return the favor. I think this has some really strong lines and is a cool find. A suggestion right off the top is to have your photo be a larger file size. The max allowable is 150 kb and your is 58 kb. This means you could have had hearly three times the smoothness in edges and details. I notice this is one ting that can keep a score down abit. Here is a link to he photoshop tutorial on this site for submitting photos for challenges. But I thikn you had a used a good perspective and like the wide angle feel. Thanks again.
