Roll in the Hayby pointandshootComment by Jutilda: OMG!! I love this. It's as if the hay is a hairy animal and the two trees at the top are sticks stuck in it. This is almost surreal. Just awesome. 1= |

Staurophobiaby pointandshootComment by posthumous: What I love about it is the outrageous shapes and contrasts that just don't seem to fit the perspective we're expecting to see. Elements seem to float, or belong to other worlds. "contrivedness" is not so bad when it's taken over the top. As I told Paul, you both surprised me in this challenge. |

where flowers go to dieby pointandshootComment by Paul: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: This is lovely - the slight glowiness, the way the flowers are tucked away in the corner - the foreground negative space that forces us to keep our distance and creates a sense of furtiveness... all very effective. The toning is particularly nice too.
Critical stuff: Nothing.
Overall: I really like this. The empty bottom half of the image makes it for me. |

Staurophobiaby pointandshootComment by tanguera: I don't know about all that deconstructed contriveism of German Expressionism, but marvel at this shot. Pinhole photography is a whole dimension away from what I do, but may one day explore. This is a joy to look at and interpret. I only just now noticed the blood on the back of his hand. |

Very observant, Richard (and Louis). I had originally set this up to be a campy pinhole shot with lots of blood and overused icons, while at the same time drawing on the pinhole's infinite DOF for a surreal effect. The harder I tried, the darker it turned, finally resting in limbo - genre-less, and lacking a statement.
Even though I personally consider this photo a miss, I greatly appreciate the generous and constructive comments. |

ETA: That said, upon second viewing I do find myself appreciating it more. The concept, the sense of scale both literally and figuratively, the juxtaposition and the style of rendering do play a compelling tune. Message edited by author 2010-12-03 02:27:48. |
