Look out, it's a red hot poker!by xianartComment by ambaker: Critique Club Review:
To tell you the truth, the alternative entry would have worked better. Were there more "steam/smoke" coming off the character the picture would have worked better also. As is, the negative space is pretty good sized, and sort of just there.
Focus, lighting, color, saturation, and hue are well done.
You did a very good job keeping things sharp with the timed exposure, and yet at the same time, giving the impression of movement.
In some respects I feel that the challenge turning into a graphic arts contest, but nothing says that we can't have one of those once in a while. Perhaps that should have been made a little clearer to entrants.
Overall I really like this picture, the alternate picture felt even more Larson-ish. I do not remember this particular cartoon. But then there are many I do not remember.
I do think you should have scored higher than you did. |

Poohsticksby xianartComment by xianart: while this is a digital image, the effects achieved through post processing, this image could be a chieved quite easily in a darkroom. one would, of course, start with a grainy film (tri-x was always my choice). the distortion could be achieved by tilting the easel, the light exposure by selective butrning of the corners, and the sabatieed edges by flicking the darkroom lihgts on, again, whilst protecting the areas needed.
that is, if you loved the holga and didn't have one.
i love the holga, i don't have one. i no longer have a darkroom - the chemicals and i don't agree. nor do they agree with my toddler.
a digital image is a photograph. it is on a different medium. post proceesing is dodging and burning. chemical rubs. selinium etc. baths. everyone played in the darkroom, it was fun. same here. |

Safeby xianartComment by agenkin: Awesome stuff. The central placement works great with an already static square format. |
