The Old Man And The Seaby zaflaboutComment by eschelar: it looks to my eye like there is some weird artifacting going on in the water from processing. Because of the nature of this challenge, I am ignoring it for my vote.
What I find except10nal about this pic is the grandeur of the cloud matched with its reflection and giving a nice frame to the individual in the chair. |

The Old Man And The Seaby zaflaboutComment by CNovack: Voted earlier coming back to leave comments. The B&W processing is spectacular. The tones and contrasts are very dynamic. Love the clouds and the gleam on the water's surface that looks like a pathway. Speaking of the pathway it leads our eye to the main subject of the composition. We see the outpost first but then our eye spots the human element. The man that is sitting there watching...but watching what we ask? Perhaps he is a lookout or perhaps he is like us, just watching the fantastic display on storm clouds. A storm seems to be brewing and there might be a spectacular light show off in the distance of cloud to cloud lightning or lightning strikes upon the water. The composition's mood and feel really draws us in. This holds many story elements. Well done! |

The Old Man And The Seaby zaflaboutComment by Refwhett: I know it's a technical cliché to comment of the horizon being in the middle of the image but I really do feel the image suffers from it. To me the foreground included in this crop doesn't add anything to the shot. I would probably have croped it just under the reflection. Otherwis it had a very nice feel to it with the looming clouds and lonely man on his chair. 6 |
