Great portrait. Camera position being low gives his look authority I find. Your lighting choice is simple but effective and his pose is fantastic. Good teamwork. You two toos work well together. ;]

I really like the clarity and lighting of this shot. He looks like such an interesting man -- I bet he can really tell a good story.

Reading your comments, perhaps it was your intention, but he looks so stiff and posed. Almost like you said, "Stand here. I'm going to take your picture." and there was no relaxing him. I look at it and his face says, "I'm interesting, talk to me." but his pose says, "I'm bored/tense, leave me alone, or I'm going to jack you in the side of the face."

Very interesting subject with such kind eyes. I would imagine he has wonderful stories to tell. Looks as though he's getting ready to say something wise! Colors are beautiful.

Oh, crap, you even make killer shots in blur. :) Nice brightness to it, suits the subject/activity - cheerful.

I'm a ways away from the strobist technique but I appreciate seeing what can be done. I think it's fabulous that you managed to have his black t-shirt stand apart from the black background. If you had not written anything, I would have thought this was a studio shot. I love the strong colortone of his clothing too. Wonderful clarity as well. And of course - great expression!

Comment by Ken:
He looks like quite the character, and still has that "tough guy" look, although perhaps a bit mellowed by the years. That's quite the job on the lighting, I thought it was a black background before I read your comments.

What a long trip from ukrainian emmigrant to harley guy. His face has the lines that tell every mile of it. Great shot.

Great shot. I grew up in a Harley kind of town -- reminds me of some of my old neighbors. The skin is processed beautifully, and the pose and angle are good too.

More a portrayal of her wrinkles than a portrait of the woman. Softer lighting called for here?
