February Landscape-Eagle Peakby twmaxComment by twmax: Originally posted by bassbone: This is what this side challenge is all about - getting to view images with great light to emphasize the mountains and the details of the sky.
I am with rlewis on the composition with regards to the land - it does not seem to really provide enough 'dramatic feel' - even though the light and b/w processing are very dramatic. A different angle at this shot - lower so we could be looking up at the mountains - or placing the mountains higher in the frame (less sky - even though it is one heck of a sky!) might help make this a bit more dramatic. |
Thanks for taking the time to critique my photo! I see the point being made by you and rlewis about the mountain not inspiring, or not being dramatic. I think the problem is that from my vantage point, the peak was probably only a couple hundred feet higher than I was. A better angle would have been down in the river valley, but would have been another two hour hike down and out to get the shot, and it was already near sunset when this was taken.

February Landscape-Eagle Peakby twmaxComment by dtremain: Very nice shot. IMO, the right side mountains are too dark. The clouds are very nice. You might be able to crop a bit off the top, and a bit off the left to bring the peak in a bit closer.

February Landscape-Eagle Peakby twmaxComment by rlewis: There is a lot to like about this image (dramatic clouds, snow on the mountain, the light playing on the mountain), but the "land" part of the image as a whole doesn't inspire me. Maybe it is too much of the flat lifeless foreground or the sense that the mountains are smaller than I suspect they really are. The sense of mountains isn't grabbing me. Please understand this is intended as a helpful comment and not a criticism. |

Lake Cuyamaca Wooden Bridgeby twmaxComment by bobonacus: Lovely light and great scene. The reflection and sky are great. My only cc is I may have been tempted to run shadow/highlights (assuming LR2 has that function) just to bring the shadows out a little |

Reflections of a Passing Stormby twmaxComment by NPShields: I can understand the other comments but there are many things that I do like about this image; I like the low horizon and I think what drew you to this shot was the amazing cloud formations and the wonderful reflectional aspect. No evidence of mankind, for me, fills it with tranquility. Enjoy the memory but maybe next time you could incorporate the other suggestions, resulting in a higher impact image; maybe a lone bird, etc., playing at the water's edge... |
