I like the concept of the shot, but think that the pencil could have been slightly more in focus. Also, I wish that the white balance was adjusted to cool down the tones of the image a bit and avoid that yellowish-grey color of the paper.

I think your own comment sums up the validity of this photo. It doesn't look like you put much effort into it. Some of your comments also talk about the shadow and time of day, and that is a big issue here also. Time of day is everything for outdoor photos, and this one simply is at a very bad time. I can't offer you much critique and I don't believe the image warrants any more than this unfortunately.

A beautiful structure. I don't know well enough of it's location to know whether you can get the face fully lit by the sun - would be better than half and half if at all possible.
