I think this was a good attempt. Your lighting seems like it may have been good. This should be as big as DPC allows and, as far as I can tell, it is not in focus.

I have to say, I don't like the principle being expressed here, that a poor child is somehow a failure. Although I suppose he may FEEL like one, and that makes it real... Not affecting my score anyway, just something I wanted to mention.

It's a pity the image has been saved so small, we really can't see enough detail in the face to connect with this one.
