Dammit I like this shot. I'm sure it fails all over the place, but thanks for putting it up, anyway.

I love this shot but would have preferred a tighter crop on the alter which would have kept me with the subject. The pole to the right and the items on the left pull me away from where the attention should be. I like your color saturation and exposure.

I like this...I like this alot...unique and completely effective...the lines are great, the centering of the main object within the composition is perfect and only strengthens the effect of the roadside shrine...and how perfect is that aqua wall? Very nice work.

Interesting! Seems tilted a bit to the left. I would have preferred if you were closer so we could see what is inside that "shrine".

::: Greetings from Critique Club :::

Hi, as requested, here is an indepth critique of your submission.

First Impression - the most important one:
Definitely yellow. But, I have to agree with LucidLotus, it's hard to get excited about.

Composition:
Somewhat boring. This is probably what killed it for you. Composition is such that it is a nice shot of a flower, but it doesn't transend that into being a great shot.

Subject:
Subject is clear, as it fills the frame, it would be hard to miss the subject.

Technical (Color, focus, and light):
Color is nice, feels natural.
Focus may be a bit soft, but perhaps you didn't apply enough sharpening after resize.
Lighting: Exposure is good, but the lighting in general doesn't give the image any POP.

To grow its vote?:
I think DPC is going through an anti-flower stage. That might have hurt your vote. Also, voters want to be wowed.

Summary:
It's a pretty picture, don't get me wrong. It just doesn't have any wow factor to get high votes.

Hope to see more from you soon,
Leroy

Lovely leaf and water droplets. I think I might prefer this centered.

Comment by Maverick:
Nice composition and subject. The raindrops are a nice touch. The right bottom corner looks soft compared to the rest of the shot - maybe a smaller aperture to bring it all into sharp focus? I like the contrast in the largest drop especially - the dark green offsets the black shadow of the drop nicely. Some dodging and burning to accentuate this throughout the rest of the leaf might make this more visually appealing as well. Still, a nice photo.

Comment by LucidLotus:
I can't get very excited about this image. The concept is nice, the lighting brings out the vibrancy of the color, the composition is good. I like the contrast in the vertical nature of the inner stamen/petally things versus the other petals in their horizontal placements. The focus seems a bit soft on much of the image, and overall the photo doesn't inspire me to look deeper into the floral element. 4.
