I like the lighting in this portrait. Gives him an edgy, almost 18th century look. The red is so dim it almost takes on a sepia look. I wish we could choose the background color of the page our entries appear on. This one needs black I believe. Very nice.

I think this shot didn't grab me because of the color in the lighting; I felt it distracted from the subject matter and the general feel of the shot as a low-key shot. I'm not saying it's not low-key, and I'm not saying that it should have been black and white, but the highs got lost in the color for me, and that made it less appealing. Hope that helps you see what I saw.
