Marvelby ursulaComment by Marc923: I like this one. A nice abstract look to it. Colors could be a bit brighter, though. |

03 (Original) - Snowby ursulaComment by ursula: Originally posted by bsluijk: Snow and wind can have a wonderful effect. Well captured, and a good choice to make a BW image from it. I cannot judge the scale of what I'm looking at, but when I took pictures this week of the snow (using a 100mm macro, so similar to what you used) I was amazed to discover individual snowflakes just like the textbooks show them. |
I didn't use the macro for this, but the 18-200 walkaround zoomed at 105. It's a rather large bank, by the side of a mountain road. Distance to subject is about 10 metres (guessing).
Like you say, it is quite interesting how much detail you can get in snow. I am always surprised at how not smooth snow is, and how many different surface textures it can show. This snow (Thursday) was ratherr granular. By contrast, yesterday's snow was a crystaline surface. F/11 (rather than my often used fully open lens) helps a lot! The hardest thing for me is white balance when it comes to snow! Exposure is also tricky with snow, so I use the sky for metering and the blinkies on the viewer after a test shot or two. 03 (Original) - Snowby ursulaComment by ciaeagle: I would never have guessed snow on this one. It looks like skin to me ... Maybe a woman's curves but no that can't be it either. ;) It's very pleasing to the eye and I love the tones and textures. |

03 (Original) - Snowby ursulaComment by MacDonald: Snow - imagine how many snowflakes have gathered in that bank to create such varying depths. It's so smooth and the shades of blacks & gray invite my eye in - this image has a beautiful sensual quality to it. Message edited by author 2013-01-20 01:33:25. |
