As karmabreeze mentioned.... "....blown highlights" have affect on how one views this. I see the smoke conflicting to some extent in highlights with a marvelous quasi-nostalgic colour edit. Not that the effect should have been eliminated, the combined effect appears to be more successful in the black & white outtakes, which I like very much. However I found this portrait deserving at least the 6 I gave it.

This needs a bit more tonal depth in my opinion. Try adjustment layer curves or levels. Nice composition.

Nice idea. I think I would have liked this better in color, and with a little bit (~1/2") of the top cropped off.
