Growing up, I always remember seeing these guys in my various field guides and being frustrated that they did not range into my area.
Photographically, this is one of the most effective and cool uses of shallow DoF I've seen. The way the web almost completely vanishes, leaving the spider hovering, is quite the visual effect.

The web actually looks remarkably like a deep space picture of the cosmos. Planets, galaxies and nebulae taking the place of dirt, leaves, and bits of the preyed upon. Or maybe there's no difference.

The lighting on this is awesome. Radiating web and harsh outlines on the legs and abdomen, great stuff.

Reduced to charcoal lines and shapes, with a hovering abstract element, this composition is very imaginitive and quite unique.

This is a really awesome picture. Good eye. I would love to see a comparison between this picture, and one where the wires above are edited out. They do not bother me here, but I am curious whether the removal would make the picture stronger or weaker. Obviously not legal in the editing for this challenge though.
Anyways, awesome work. I do hope this gets its just admiration from the masses. 8

I would like this better if the horizon was straight.

I agree with Dan. Sharp, normal, floras can be rather dull. The faded colors, and low contrast add to the delicate nature of the flowers. However, the presentation of the branches makes the composition; it's subtleties like this that make an image unique and interesting.

Lovely. I get lots of very positive feelings from this image.

The Lensbaby effect does wonders for floral images. We've seen several in this thread that have much more emotional impact than they would as sharp "normal" images.
