I missed the voting for this one, I would have given it a 6 very good job with focusing on the eyes.
One thing I noticed, it would have been better if the horizon was straight maybe a little more background space around your statue or maybe other statues behind like this one with more background space them.

Good try on your first contest Joyah

I was a 6 voter, I found if the object had been a little sharper on focus, it would have score better, also instead of straight on lighting(or flash) that a side light would have made a more dramatic shot, perhaps light from the front and shoot from a side angle. also more of the frame with the object. Overall good job on your first challenge.

Very good first entry Joyah. Your focus on the statue is excellent, choice of dof great. Lighting works well for this shot. If you'd cropped off the base of the statue it would have helped I think as I feel the fairy is straight, just the angle of the base.

Good work, looking forward to seeing more of your images

Overall, I think you met the challenge well -- it does have shallow depth of field. You also have some nice bokeh patterns in the back.

From my experience, pictures of figurines do not do as well on dpc. That said, I think you could have made this more interesting by chosing a unique angle, or including just part of the fairy in the picture (not the whole thing). As one photographer told me. Frame your shot, then get closer. Repeat. ;) Don't be afraid to fill the frame with your subject.

I think you did a good job on the shallow dof. The background colors look good with the image. This is my opinion but what I think brought down your score was the tilted base of the statue and the fact that the statue is not a 'wow' subject. It is beautiful and I think you did a good job with the broken background. I wish you the best and more comments in the future.

You did a good job having sharp focus on the eyes. The background colors work well with the statue.
On the down side, a shot of a little statue isn't all that exciting.
It would help if your horizon was straight.
Good first try, Joyah!

I was a 5-er. If the noise in the bg been eliminated I would have bumped up. Overall I agree with id, good handling of dof and lighting. Very respectable first entry indeed - I look forward to seeing your future entries!

Good job with the lighting! Everything is nice and evenly lit, and that is really hard to do - especially with something sparkly that has lights behind it!
