Whoa there!by front_elementComment by justine: Not sure if they are Derby Hats, or Bowler Hats but I love them. The action captured really makes this wonderfully composed shot. |

Whoa there!by front_elementComment by Covert_Oddity: Ha, I like the scared look from the guy in the hat contrasted with the completely bored look from the guy standing in the background!
It's a well caught shot, I think it would be good as part of a series or if you were writing an article, but on it's own it's not particularly outstanding. |

"Have you seen HOW FAR it is to the finish line?!"by front_elementComment by GuGi: Originally posted by pidge:
The expressions are great. In fact, if you can track these women down, I think they'd get a huge kick out of the capture you've got.
Where (IMHO) this picture falls short, is in relation to the challenge. Voters tend to be picky when it comes to meeting this challenge, and without the title, meeting the challenge isn't terribly obvious.
The composition is fine, but because of it's close-up straight on cropping, you get no sense of the 'distance' that they have unexpectedly found.
Long story short, I think you got voted down because some voters MAY have perceived this as a shoehorn into the challenge.

I agree and take the liberty to use those words. If you look at some of the masterpieces on dpc, many of them get 1's and 2's and 3's. Let's face it, some photographers here give low scores, apparently they are very much better than the best here and regrettably, they seldom leave comments with those low scores, guess they do not want to share their secret knowledge of photography with the rest of us.
You got a 6 from me and I know I was on the verge of giving you a 7. I think it is a good capture, and I love your sence of humour.
You are welcome to look at my entry in this challenge. I thought it was spot on, but one of the commenters seems to have talking/reading walls all around :-)
Don't let this worry you, it says more about certain dpc'ers than it says about your unexpected entry. Message edited by author 2006-06-18 06:46:50. |

"Have you seen HOW FAR it is to the finish line?!"by front_elementComment by bvoi: Sorry karmabreeze, I like the the bib numbers. Without them, the subjects wouldn't have as good as a reference point. I think it is a great photo and I gave it a 7. There is some image grain, it looks like, on the face of the woman on the left. The lighting is a bit harsh for dpc/fine art audiences. Overall, I love the moment and probably should have given it a 10. |

"Have you seen HOW FAR it is to the finish line?!"by front_elementComment by Rebecca: Responding to your thread. If you have a bib number on your shirt, you probably should not be terribly surprised at the distance you've signed up for. How unexpected can that really be? It would be a lot more effective without the bib numbers which suggest an absolutely deliberate full-knowledge action. |
