This seems too dark for me. Hard to tell that the light has been 'painted' on or if it's just a stationary light source. i like the pose, and it's very tastefully done, only wish that the subject were a bit brighter. would love to see this in more detail.

for starters, because a large majority of people disagree with daboardergirl's assessment ;-)

just trying to keep this simple:

technically, the focus is weird. the dof is so shallow that you can't get a real sense of the subject, mainly because you can't tell what's in front and what's in back. if all the sprouts had been in focus, the image would have registered with most viewers a little easier.

as for meeting the challenge, it's a bit of a stretch to call this 'earth' when the earth is not the subject or the focus. the earth is just there, and it's not really fair to ask the voters to make the leap that having something in the image is the same thing as making that something the image. maybe if you has drenched the sprouts and made the water drops extremely visible.

wow factor? nada. the colors are nice, but this isn't an image that is going to arrest the viewer, let alone the voter.

in the end, this image scored about where it should have. obviously not one of your better outings, but definitely nothing to question yourself over.

I CANNOT believe this scored so low. I thought it would make top 10. I gave it an 8, but now I wish I gave a 10. This is just a beautiful picture. :) The DOF is perfect, the soil color is magical, and the angle is inspired. Haha! Anyways... great job!

A good image, nice pose. My first thoughts were "too dark" but given time to look I think you have it just right. It has and aged "Old Masters" feel to it. I'm thinking Leonardo Da Vinci. With each passing moment I like this image more. Very well done!

The problem is that if you do a really good job paining with the light - it does not appear that you did so. It almost looks like a single source. But I think you did a great job. Looks like an old oil painting. Great.
