Perhaps what took away a universal appeal of this image is that there is a lot to look at in this plant..it is very complex and busy..get out that macro lens and try focusing on a specific part of the plant...it may not have scored well, but at least nobody told you that it was horrible, like they told me on my soft focus image..haha...sometimes when you have an artistic vision, it only touches a few people.

Looks like you used a bit too much USM. The halos around the branches are a distraction. I would also prefer to have the whole tree in the shot.
