The Watcher in the Mountainby PhocalComment by snaffles: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Delightfully creepy, there is something so primitive and malevolent here, and helps that the hide around the eye contrasts so well with the glassiness of the eye. Pity it came in so low, I think voters were expecting to see more flip'n'blend, as many are quite elaborate. The pp seems a little heavy for you, but sometimes a challenge like this calls for a little more in the post tricks area. I still like this one just fine :-) Trying to figure out if it's the lighting or pp but the purpley areas on the gator really give me the chills for some reason.
Keep up the good work and be careful around them big swamp critters!

Golden Eyeby PhocalComment by Lydia: Greetings from the Critique Club, Robbie!
So close to a Top Ten!
I think what held you back is not your composition... that's wonderful.
Not your colors... those are fabulous.
I see a bunch of noise in your image... It might be your processing... I'm not sure.
The noise is a distraction for me as a viewer.
I totally LOVE your composition... straight on... in my face!
I think the noise held back your score.
*sigh*

Dead Liveby PhocalComment by sidpixel: Hello from the Critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge
I love the graphic nature of your composition, it works very well with the main branch coming in from the corner and the bird in the upper right, perfect. The pose of the bird is good too with his head turned so his beak is prominent it wouldn't work anywhere near as well without this, well done. There is still some detail where it matters though pure sillhouettes would probably work too. I think I would like to see the background lightened a little to increase the contrast. The main criticism I do have is that it appears over-sharpened, there are halos particularly evident around the tree which are detrimental to the overall result.
Thank you for your entry Ronnie, hope you had a lovely festive holiday and a creative New Year to you. |
