bowl in sinkby
ZenjohnComment by amber: Hi from the Critique Club!
This is a deceptive image. My initial reaction was 'yuk! On closer and longer inspection though this is an excellent study.
This is one of the few naturalistic images in the challenge - ie this is exactly where you would expect to find a spoon. It's authentic, gritty and real. It reminds me a little of Joseph Sudek's work.
I love the composition: there is a wonderful series of overlapping circles, creating really appealing curves. The spoon creates a really nice, linear opposition to these circles.
There is beautiful detail on the sink itself; the scratches, the lettering, the relief work on the spoon and of course that liquid. Yes initially, you think 'yuk', but it is real and gives added interest. And if you look at it long enough it begins to look like the moon:)
I love the lighting, it's moody and dramatic and makes an everyday sight more photographic. It also gives nice highlights on the bowl.
The milky white and cream colours in the water contrast well against the black and white of the rest of the image.
Overall, a really great study of an everyday object.
