Sereneby GIS_boyComment by scarbrd: nice, I would have put the horizon lower in the frame. Generaly, in basic composition, horizons should not go through the middle of your frame. Of course, I'm all about breakin the rules! But if you look at seascapes that are really good, rarely will the horizon go straight through the middle. 6 |

Angelicby GIS_boyComment by mattmac: I love this portrait! Her eye(s) are so huge and beautiful. What works for me is the fact that she is not smiling - and I really like the overall composition. |

Angelicby GIS_boyComment by rich: Greetings from the Critique Club!
This is a very strong portrait to critique. My first impression is a very good one. On the technical side I think this is very well executed - I like the lighting, the skin tones are good, excellent use of DOF. The eye is sharp, as well as the lashes, which I really think is critical if you are going to zoom in this close. I also like the model's expression for this image - almost undefinable, makes you wonder what she is thinking.
My only suggestion on composition after looking at this for some time would be to crop in tighter on the right - essentially remove some of the negative space on the left. Not a lot, just a vertical strip from the left so that the curve of her shoulder meets the left lower corner. That still leaves a lot of negative space and at the same time I feel like it will pull her eye into the shot a little more and make it a bit more powerful. I'm not really sure that would work, just a suggestion there. The image is excellent as it stands. I see you had a lot of outakes posted and I like your choice of entry. 13th place is nothing to sneeze at after all :-)
Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Sereneby GIS_boyComment by DigiFotoBuddy: Nice take on the challenge. Different that typical glass and flowers for this challenge. Top 10? Best of luck. |

Sereneby GIS_boyComment by macrothing: 8 - Very nice. Wish it had a bit more height, but depends what was there/you had, obviously. Colors work well here, but still wonder if a tweaking of them a fraction more vivid (looks like might result in contrast/etc issues) make this even stronger, especially for the Challenge. Apologies in advance if wrong, but horizon looks like it needs a fraction nudge rotate up on the left. edit:typo Message edited by author 2006-06-17 18:14:23. |
