They thought it was just the sun, as usual, shining through the clouds, like it had a billion times before. However, rarely had it shone so bright, or so briefly. It burst in one moment, shone for a short time, and then faded as quickly as it had come.

Not much more was thought of it then, and life continued as it always had.

Until they came, and the sun never shone on humanity again.

I count it as a "bench" - nature gives us all sorts of cool places to sit and think. The composition seems just a tad awkward to me but I'm not sure what I'd do differently either. Nice calm view.
