Great shot - too bad you didn't get to submit it. One thing I would recommend is to crop the bottom 50ish pixels, to eliminate those blown highlights on the water surface.

I hate most bird and squirrel pictures because theyre rediculously over rated and too easy to shoot, but this looks like a fantastic shot to me! It would have turned out a bit better if you had focused it a little better (although you dont want the bird to fly away, of course) or if you had first saved it as a BMP and sharpened it and then saved it as a JPEG, then perhaps it wouldnt have turned out as fuzzy.. Still, I would have given it an 8-9..

Gave this a 7. Liked the composition and capture, especially of the 'see-through nostril and open beak'. Was just a bit dark overall in my opinion.

Nice composition and good use of DOF. Looks like you were not lucky with lighting; perhaps you should have used flash to bring more life to the gull.

Perhaps a little 'flat' in tonal values but a really good wildlifer and off-centred as well
