Nice shot. I like the contrast of the background and the black and white feel of the shot. if the flame was a bit stronger this would have been even better to me IMHO:)

I like your idea of hainv contrasts in temp. I like the blue of the flame witht the bit of orange, but wish it was more prominent. Too mush of the composition is white - contradicting the the tension in the subject. If you could have a larger flame, or a lens that could bring you closer in.

Cool idea, but seems to lose class. If you had used a pretty lighter of some kind, perhaps. Also, the flame is rather unimpressive - the blue part of the flame (while BEING the hottest) gives no impression of heat - the inferno of red and yellow does that. (6)

Critique Club

Hi bcncrazy,

my first impression of this picture was non-committal, I personally do not find much of interest in this image. I does have a certain appeal with the discoloured clouds but overall I think it lacks that something that would make me take a second look.

In terms of meeting the challenge, technically it is within the boundaries set out for primariy colours. I would like to know if this was your inital idea or was it an afterthought?

Technically the image is sharp enough and seems to be within acceptable exposure levels.

Overall I think in a literal sense this image is not strong within the guidelines of the challenge and consequently has been voted down accordingly.
Perhaps it might be worthwhile adding some comments to the Photographers comments field in order to allow us a retrospective view of what you were looking to achieve with your images.

Thanks for sharing and keep shooting.

Greetings from the Critique Club };-)

Initial thoughts
Interesting composition, meets the challenge, tilt and graininess hurts it.

Composition/ Content
Everything in the shot seems to lean to the lower left. That really seems to hurt it as most of your commenters noted. The shot itself holds some interest, especially the gull on the motor. I think I would have cropped this in from the right just at the bottom of the hill. That and rotated it two degrees to the right.

Technical
Focus seems a bit soft and grainy. You have enough megapixels with your camera to pick that up. Do you know about Neat Image? That free download would really help this shot. It would sharpen and remove the graininess in the sky. The lighting is a bit flat as well, but that could only be helped by the sun or a change in time.

My Opinion On The Photo
I originally scored this shot a five as did most of the voters. I think that it meets the challenge but could have been improved a little to finish higher than it did. It has some interst but could have been better. Good job, and keep up the good work.

I would be happy to talk further about this shot if you would like to contact me.

Greetings!

I thought that you might like to know that I just finished a critique on your shot "Trouble In Paradise". I hope it helps in some way!

Thanks,
DougPaz

The colors are a little too muted to be fully effective, I think. Also, there doesn't seem to be any real composition or object of focus.

This photo looks very "washed out" to me. I'm not crazy about the way the clouds and the sky look - there is not enough contrast, and really nothing to catch my eye, nothing dramatic, and the photo has very little impact for me. I just don't like this treatment for this challenge.

I see what you were trying to achieve here, but I just can't say it worked. The cloulds look fake and totally digitized and over processed. Looks more like a doppler than a photograph, but I applaud your idea and your creativity!
