A black and white image of a cloudy sky that shows texture and contrast in light and darks.
Your commenters have spoken to the idea of fitting the challenge. I won't say more on that except to say that in the challenges here it is a huge factor influencing voting.
The image strikes me as a good study in black and white. There is a great range of tonality. It appears you may have used a polarizing filter to achieve an almost black sky which enhances the ephemeral nature of the clouds.
The composition has a sense of diagonals because of the light direction and placement of the subject. This provides a bit of interest and energy to a rather mundane subject.
Technically, I can see striations on the most solid of the cloud formations. It appears that although you have 640 pixels on the longest side of your image, the file size is about half of what it could be. These noisy artifacts detract from the purity of the image you're trying to present.
Overall the image appears to be a fine study of a common subject.
Keep shooting!

America's Finest Cityby emtmdhComment by Neuferland: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Hello and just what city is this? I have no clue as I'm not familier with most city skylines, LOL! :)
This has the potential to be a wonderful great shot. The idea is there, the composition is there but the post processing really hurt this one in the end. The halos around the building, the tilt on the horizon and the uneven colors really hurt this shot. Also, while you used the 640 on one side the other side is so short you lose the chance to really make this shot work.
The bridge coming out on the right hand side is not needed IMHO, if you cropped it tighter on that side and then straightened it out and don't sharpen so much it leaves a halo, add a noise filter if you need to. If you rework this I would love to see it!
Good Luck in Future Challenges!

America's Finest Cityby emtmdhComment by Tammer: Not bad, and with a few adjustments I think this could be better. It seems to be tilting to the left and I wonder if rotating the horizon a bit clockwise would help? Also, and this is just me personally, I find that black and white or sepia photos with grain have greater impact than color photos. |

America's Finest Cityby emtmdhComment by Yellowpeep: This is a nice photo. And it leaves me wondering whether or not the grain really enhanced the image. To me, grain works best in photos that are dark, contrasty or moody, or to provide an "aged" look. This seems to me like a good image that had grain added to it for a contest, rather than an image that was enhanced by the use of grain. Keep shooting! :) |

Fantastic image, striking...but I don't see how it fits Light on white.
Call me narrow minded, if you want. |
