To improve it in my opinion, I think I would have shot it when the light was not so harsh i.e. early in the morning or after 5:30pm. I also would have tried to get a shallower depth of field so only the person and the thing he is riding is in focus and the background is out focus. This can be achieved with a bigger aperture or longer focal length.
