Human Geometryby TOYComment by Greetmir: Absolutely amazing ... She is what she is and you capture it well. Some people seem to like telling you that she would be better if she were different ... well if she was different ... then she would be different ... I cannot understand why or how some people don't understand that. Don't fight back ... Just please keep doing what you are doing ...
My signature means "Don't let the bastards get you down." btw ... ;) |

Cobra Charmer by TOYComment by doctornick: Congrats on the Blue.
One thing is for certain this photo evokes a LOT of emotion, hence the controversy and heated debate around it. 148 comments and counting... :) I'll take that much controversy anytime!!! Nobody can remain indifferent looking at this portrait! Great achievement if you ask me! :) |

Heidaby TOYComment by Haneck: Absolutely amazing - I love the hair, the colors, everything! I wonder how this would look on a black background? But I love the color harmony with the background this already has! Beautiful shot! |

Cobra Charmer by TOYComment by jenlund70: Congratulations on your Blue Ribbon! Your art has done exactly what art has done for centuries: create conversation, whether it is political or social, good or bad, you have people talking! Some comments may seem arguable, but people are expressing themselves!
How dull it would be to have everyone agree on one thing - nodding our heads in unison without saying a word.
I think the main point was missed here and instead, feelings were hurt. This piece of art will probably be hanging in a museum years from now evoking the same feelings and people will be gathered around it arguing over it's expression and how it makes them feel! What an accomplishment that would be - and that I'm sure most of us hope to achieve one day!
Great job! |

Cobra Charmer by TOYComment by riot: Originally posted by vasc: I wanted to support you on your rant against some commenter's, I understand how frustrating it can be when people talk about stuff that is none of their business and specially when it has nothing to do with your work. |
When a photograph is placed on display, to be voted on by two hundred people, both the subject matter and the means of portrayal are under scrutiny. Try to tell any voter that the subject matter should have nothing to do with their vote on the work. If it is none of our business, the photograph should not be here to receive our comments and votes.
Originally posted by Larus: What the heck has a models appearance got to do with anything anyway and how can commenting on their appearance ever be considered constructive and insightful, I mean what the heck is the photographer supposed to do? How are comments like that helping the photographer, model or this site? |
The photograph is beautifully executed, and the subject fulfils the concept, the purpose of which is to gain an emotional reaction. This photograph is OF the thin girl, hence her thinness is directly relevant, and responsible for the success of the image (which is successful because the concept which calls for it has been fulfilled). You can't have the success without the emotional reaction. You want to have your cake and eat it, if you imagine you could get the votes without the comments. |
