Why not judge this work on its artistic merit which is unusually high for a top DPChallenge pick? While I agree this is a public site the young lady is really unknown to almost everyone viewing this. She is lovely, the photograph is lovely, if stylized, which I would think, from the title, is the whole point of it. LAY OFF!!! Aneurexia is a complicated and complex illness that NO ONE can diagnose from one very artistic shot. She does not deserve this! MMM This is one of the gripes I have with this site generally. Choices seem often to be made on visceral reactions to the subject instead of technique. MMM

Congrats on your well deserved blue ribbon! I gave this a 10 and predicted it would ribbon.

After seeing your outtakes, I am curious about Romy's hair. Did she shave it for this shoot? She really is a beautiful girl.

I am 5'10" and once upon a time I was as thin as Romy. Not anorexic, just naturally tall and thin. Now that I am 42 and have had 4 children, I am rathar plump. :-)

Great shot, great lighting, great pose, great model... i could continue but i'm just gonna say that your work is great! Congratulations on the Ribbon and first and foremost the incredible artwork of this photo!!

about all the comments:
People are entitled to their personal opinions. However, that does not give them the right to be insulting and mean. Weight and appearance are very sensitive subjects in our modern society. It's very hard to find a person who doesn't give a flying f*** about their looks. So don't comment on a person's appearance in a way that can be understood insulting. Always at least TRY to put yourself in their position. klstover found the right words to say about bodies, i won't repeat them.

But obviously, people, whose comments are rude, immature and definately made without any truth or proof, have either never been insulted/hurt OR they have been very often and this is their way of defence.

So it is our job, we who think we can comment and critisize politely, to do so and try to teach others, also politely, to do the same.

This is by far my longest comment!

Toyan, again, congrats on an incredible photo - you are truly an artist worth praising!

That's a comment just as stupid as yours.

Kistover- I didn't mean to insult Romy. I think she has very nice features. It doesn't matter to Toyan if we like the picture or not. He does. If he had posed her, so she wouldn't have looked so skinny, I think it would have been more pleasing to the eye. Wonder if he had chosen a very overweight model, doing the same pose, would he have received a Blue and all the kudos from you fellow DPCers? (No, I am not overweight and have probably been veiwing photographs longer than most of you.) Is there a mc febo in America and what is a frikadel? Sounds dirty.

Okay, I was trying my best to hold my tongue but I have just had it! Arrrgh!!! I personally think that it's totally valid to say "oh, you know, that picture looks kinda creepy and somewhat gross to me; I'd visually prefer a model that weighs more; - that's your opinion as a viewer of the shot. But saying "give the girl some food" is totally different and insulting.

I had a close friend in high school who was very thin and ate everything. I saw a person accuse her of having a disease she didn't have - not ask, caringly, if she had a problem she needed help with, but accuse in a very offensive manner. The person accusing was the one who had a problem.

You know what's really, truly ironic? The people making these stupid comments... well if you take a look at some of their self portraits, they're not the traditional "western society's view of beauty" themselves. What would you think if someone left a comment on your photo that "oh my gosh that's gross you have a problem, you should put a lock on your fridge"?

People's bodies are different and that does not automatically mean there is something wrong.

Wow, I love this photo. The two unique expressions and tight crop are great. Elle est très minon et j'adore son sourire.
