I think that is quite a shame to those of us who worked very hard as well, and had fun, with our "exactly" 2 second exposures. You know, I wanted to get a squirrel at a 2 second exposure. I sat perched in wait for HOURS waiting for the flicking tail of a squirrel to be ghosted out. Why? Because everyone knows how fast squirrels move, and for 2 seconds to sit still for me, would have been a good shot. I did get one, but thought I would give tribute to dead veterans instead by taking a shot of the fountain near the memorial, which again took about 50 takes for anything decent with my experience. My bad choice not to enter the squirrel when fountains abounded in this challenge, but I worked hard for my 2 seconds. And look at ShutterPug, who sat and napped for FOUR HOURS in her car and in the snow for her lovely shot?
I expect more from the seasoned DPC'ers than this. This is really a shame. I didn't expect to win, but at least I respected the spirit of the challenge. Something I learned to do since my dof shot in the "singled out" where I got SO MUCH flack for creating my dof, and I wasn't even close to a good score. I was so wrapped up in the "illusion" of photography discussions in forum that I threw caution to the wind and entered a wildlife photo that only eluded to be wildlife, and a singled out photo that had created dof. I have since learned my lesson from the flack. I won't be doing that again, and will either be able to pull off my shot or not pull it off and not enter, but I am new and wasn't the wiser. Now I am. But for you seasoned DPC'ers who in forum can't WAIT to post your scores and boast, or have many ribbons and high scores, you should be ashamed to receive ribbons when they are ill recieved. Very disrespectful. Not only to the challenge, but to your fellow DPC'ers and to DPC in general.
I would be happy to retract this statement if you can provide proof of 2 seconds used, but until then, I think this is just a horrible excuse for placement in 3rd. Don't get me wrong. The concept was excellent, and the composition great, but NOT for this challenge.
At least Elsapo, for his blue ribbon win, proclaimed to be sorry and showed his shutter speed even when he didn't have to. Still no excuse for winning a ribbon, but at least he owned up to his faults to some extent. You have not even done that much.
