**** Greeting from the Critique Club ****

Challenge
- Relevant to the Challenge? Yes
- Is subject unique (vs. unoriginal or rehashed)? Yes

Compostion
- Good or Bad? How can it be fixed? The burst of color is such a small part of the image. I'd like to see it be a more dominant part of the picture. Crop below her elbow and just above the canvas up. It create a more intimate image where the colors really pop.
- Is there anything that should be removed? The girl from the waist down. She looks very stiff and uncomfortable.
- Good use of Depth of Field? Yes
- Good focus? Yes

Lighting
- Good use of light? As people mentioned in your comments below, the lighting from the projector is harsh, although I like that the canvas is highlighted. You can see from the back of the hand that she's overexposed.
- Good use of shadows? The shadows are too pronounced. try adding a smaller light source (40W bulb) to the model's left. At first view I didn't like the shadow to the left of the model, but if cropped properly it would accent the image.

Aesthetics/Artistic Appeal:
- Colors and Contrast
- Sharpness
- What is my reaction or feelings? The first thing the you see is the painting. It's dramatic. It's bold. The you noticed the details, the shadows, the model's hair running across her shoulder. It's got potetntial though.

Congratulations on your third highest score.

I imagine that the original file was beautiful... perhaps a little out of focus. I have to say you did a terrific job getting an honest emotion in the photo. She looks intreaging. I think, in the end, it there is just too much Photoshoping. I understand you are going for a high-key high-contrast image but there are too many areas of solid black with no detail and white with rough edges. It has potential to be a terriffic photo.

Very beautiful photograph. It has a very classical feel to it, the tones and eyes really make this. Well done!

wonderful expression but the focus seems a little soft. Was this on purpose?

Comment by Konador:
The focus seems a bit soft here, so maybe a USM would help a little. Also I think the lighting on her face needs to be a bit more frontal to get some light to the left side and not have it so harsh and bright on the right.

Comment by Neil:
Beautiful pose and great catchlights. Looks like it's a bit overprocessed to get rid of the background though, or maybe she was underexposed? In any case, the focus is very soft and in a portrait, the eyes (at least) should be crisp, even when you intentionally soften other parts.
