I like your choice of focus, the eye is drawn to the pawn in despair. And the choice of color is good too, the white one is out of hope, the black ones are its antagonizers. Nice effect with the lighting.

Extremely well shot image with what could be considered a cliche theme. There's been a few chess shots in this challenge. In my opinion, none were able to do it elegently as you. 9/10. - [added later: The more i look at your photo, the more i like it. There is so much emphasis on this white peon, I love it. Actually, the more I look, the more I think this shot is not about despair but more about courage. This looks to me as if he's defying the black army on his own. But it's just a question of personal interpretation. Great shot, really.]
