Down On The Farmby GekkerComment by jimmyn4: I take it this was taken close to sunset? The sky in this photo is very nice. Perhaps if you took the photo a little earlier there may have been more light on the subject. It is a little too dark and to me the trees in the back have lost some detail due to that. I would interested in seeing this one at a different time of day. |

Down On The Farmby GekkerComment by jjbeguin: Nice and charming location but none of the interesting subjects actually stand out in this picture (the cow, the rock(?), the tree or the barn). having one of these graphically featured would save the image. |

The Nuclear Familyby GekkerComment by Sonifo: I love the deep colors. Very nicely shot. focus, framing, and lighting is great. It really isn't humorous, but it did bring a smile to my face. |

Jingle Bellsby GekkerComment by Davenit: Carrey, greatings from the Critique Club.
Wow did you pick a hard one!!! I have personal experience with shooting bells. Yuck. They are bright shiney metallic globes of death in my eyes. I had all bells removed from my house after the shoot. LOL.
If you want to use bright shiney bells use indirect lighting and never use flash. I had to take 10 quartz lamps (with diffusers) and face them away from the subject and bounce the light back at the subject. It still was a glare nightmare.
I would also suggest to remove the mirror. Mirrors refract glare many times making the reflection look out of focus which is what you have going on here.
I didn't get a chance to vote on your image. I think your score on this is a bit low with all the stuff you probably had to go through to get it. It is a nice try with a very unforgiving subject. Next time borrow ever neighbors house lights and bounce that light at the subject. Might help a bunch. And give yourself a chance and don't use a mirror!!!
If you have any comments or questions about this email me, I would love to hear from ya...

Down On The Farmby GekkerComment by indigo997: This photo seems more drab than it should be. I think that you might have improved the composition some by focusing more on the tree/barn/cow triad. The left side of the shot isn't all that great and the tree is very centered. Might be able to adjust the black level some to help the colors. The dark border doesn't help bring out the nice colors of the sky and barn. |

The Nuclear Familyby GekkerComment by HBunch: Black fur is so hard to capture nicely. It all seems to blend in together, and you don't know where feet stop and ears begin. It is a strange sight though, the dog and cat cuddled up with the tiny puppy. I wish the object that the cat is resting on wasn't black.. Focus and clarity are good, love the little wrinkles on the puppy. Good luck in the challenge. |

The Nuclear Familyby GekkerComment by kandyj: Wish there wasn't so much dark in this photo. Black animals are so hard to catch on film. The puppy in front looks clear. Maybe a lighter background might have helped and some level or brightness adjustment to bring out more detail. |
