The bright sky took the camera's metering off your subject and left it too dark. If your camera doesn't have a spot meter try composing so that all areas of photo have similar brightnesses. Good angle on your photo, the sky just played tricks with it.

Nice bw with good tonal range, I like. The fleck below his right eye is somewhat distracting, I'd suggest cloning it out. Overall nicely done.
