Sewing in Yellowby ElaineComment by MacDonald: an original take on the challenge.. well photographed - not sure how you could make this a better shot - your composition is very good and I do appreciate abstracts which I consider this photo to be - this shot would also satisfy the texture challenge quite well. |

Sewing in Yellowby ElaineComment by LN13: very nice close-up. The color seems a little washed out on the spool that is lying down. |

Rain Collecting on Glassby ElaineComment by theSaj: I gave you a three, and here's why...
I thought the idea was fantastic, and their are aspects I really liked. The swirls, texture, etc.
That said, there was a feeling of blurriness that made it hard to focus. And was compounded by a lack of subject. I found myself peering out of a window of ice only to see what...a tree trunk.
Had it peered out to a tree branch with a bird? or perhaps to see a flower budding up out of the ground. Or even the sun thru the tree branches. If there was a strong subject to catch my eye upon peering thru, then this shot would have received a good solid 6+ from me.

Rain Collecting on Glassby ElaineComment by pawdrix: A lot of blur will ALWAYS score low. Also, I don't find trees, bark or plain skies that interesting. The image has a tremendous deal of noise which is uncommon or odd for day shots where you should have had plenty of light and the ability to use a low ISO (100-200). |

Rain Collecting on Glassby ElaineComment by rox_rox: Hey, don't feel bad about this. It's taken me forever to figure out what makes a high scoring image. The worst part is that, now I know what they look like, but I keep submitting bad shots anyway.
Some things that are important are composition, focus, lighting, depth and interest of subject matter. You might study the challenge winners and see if you can figure out what makes them stand out.
You have a good camera, but you may want to work with the settings. This image has a lot of noise, which can be minimized by working with ISO and shutter speed. |

Sewing in Yellowby ElaineComment by CNovack: The level of sharp details in this photo are top notch. However there are some elements in the composition that need some improvement. First, love the deep rich hue seen on the spool to the right. However that deep rich hue does not continue to the spool that lays horizontal to the left. The light bounces off the thread and creates a shiny shine or glare that is a little too distracting to the overall image. Next since most of the implements/elements in this shot invoke the idea of sewing (including the title) I am surprised to find that there is not a sewing needle to be found in the composition. I think the addition of that object would strengthen the composition and better suit the title you have bestowed on the piece. |

Rain Collecting on Glassby ElaineComment by bcoble: It is not a very appealing image. It is hard to have a good image when the majority is not in focus. Even the tree is not in focus. The limbs in the back ground appear to be somewhat in focus. |
