I see the backlight but it would appear a flash was used for the foreground to be so light.

This is pretty but it's not 'backlit' as you've flashed it. There are large shadows cast by the flash which defeats the light behind everything to call it backlit.

Perhaps the softness is what you were aiming for, but it appears out of focus.

The front does not look in focus to me. I like your idea and I like the coice to do this in gray tones. I think this needs to be in very sharp focus in front to make it work.

Greetings from the Critique Club

Oh dear,Oh dear, Oh dear! I have read your comments and it appears some of our voters have limited vocabularies and lack the ability to define words.

Okay, nothing we can do about that now. This is a totally appealing image of a little kid with a (sort of) cheesy smile. He's too cute to make it come off, really. Nevertheless, it, in my opinion, does meet the Challenge.

Compositionally, I like it, mostly. The door handle is intrusive; it would have been better if you could have blocked it off. And of course, for framing purposes, you can do that now. This image cries to be framed and shown off. I do like the muted white of the door. Perhaps you could blur the whole thing out so just a suggestion of light remains.

Then, the child's chin is close to the edge of the frame. You might think about leaving more space there so he doesn't look cut off.

I'll look forward to seeing more of your entries in DPChallenge.

A grainy photo is often used in association with fear. Thus, good use of grain here. I wish the photo had another element of fear in it.
"Photograph something in such a way that it conveys a personal phobia or fear to the viewer. Try to make the viewer feel the emotion of the fear."

I like this photo a lot. I agree with one of the comments below that maybe a crop from higher up would've been better, but I don't think the blinds are too distracting as many have said. Your camera is visible in the reflection - it's really not that obvious but I have the same one so I guess my eyes were drawn to the shape. :)
Doesn't take away from the photo. Good job.
