You've got shallow depth of field all right, but two of the boys are on the same plane. I can't see that you've singled out one individual.

This is screaming for an adjustment of curves. It would enrich the picture like you can't believe. Then increase the contrast. (I just did it in Photoshop 7 and it looked cool) As it is, it seems so washed out. Bummer, cause I like the idea.

When I look at this image, the first thing I see are the mountains and how they are lit. The mountains are lit by sunlight coming from the right, thus not being back-lit. The more I look at the image, the more I am thinking that you are considering the bare trees as being back-lit by the mountains. Maybe that is the case, but the over-riding elements of this image are the mountains.
