Juniperus Virginianaby AnachroniteComment by lisae: Great composition. The berries all seem to explode from a central point. The colours are also very rich. DOF is just right to distinguish this bunch of berries from its background. A very good photo. |

Wooo Hooo!by AnachroniteComment by Kavey: Critique Club
Initial thoughts
Well captured motion – weather makes for poor lighting.
Composition/ Content
The shapes of the biker and bike are strong and I like the way the biker is so high up in the air. I also like line of flags at the bottom and the red of the track earth.
Background
I am not so keen on the inclusion of the white metal structure and trees right behind the biker – I think it would be stronger with him isolated against the sky. Yes I know I am asking the impossible! My main issue with the background is that, because of the weather, the sky is so washed out and horribly white that it makes the rest of the image appear dark and washed out.
Camera Work - Technical
Well caught – I don’t know if alternative exposures would have toned down the sky and captured more colour and light in the biker. I don’t know if you exposed on auto for the whole seen or set the exposure lock by focusing on earth or another biker and kept it locked for the shot?
Fits The Challenge
Yes, definitely.
Your Opinion On The Photo
The motion is well captured but lighting and colours are not working for me.

Juniperus Virginianaby AnachroniteComment by HBunch: The focus here seems to be just to the right of dead center on the little green branches. I think I would like to see some of the berries in focus as well. The color and lighting are both very good, and the angle and framing/cropping are ok too. I would just prefer to have a bit more focus. Just a personal preference. I have wondered what these look like. I have friends, who are sisters, and their names are Jasmine, Jonquil and Juniper. Never seen a Juniper before. Thanks. Good luck in the challenge. |

Tools of the Tradeby AnachroniteComment by Swashbuckler: While this does fit the challenge, and the photo is well taken, I'm not getting a strong "wow" sense from this photo. Are you an insurance salesman? (joke) I would think this more effective if you included something in the way of hardware tool that helps these tools do their job (did that make sense?) 7 Swash |

Juniperus Virginianaby AnachroniteComment by Swashbuckler: Really neat shot! Nice details, esp. the scaling of the leaf/branches. This is a hard shot due to the wild amount of DOF needed to make everybody happy. I think this is very well done. 9 Swash |
