Youthby gsalComment by RamblinR: Love this shot and the processing but find the item at the top left corner distracting. |

Youthby gsalComment by vlado: This is a fantastic photo... the tilt works here... adds a dynamic. The grain, another element that often gets photos punished in voting, works wonders here. Composition... LOVE it... wasn't sure about the ball at first, and initially gave it an 8 (actually, I think this originally a 7 which I bumped to an 8... but now that I'm looking at it while commenting, I think it might warrant another nudge. Nine it is. |

Youthby gsalComment by Paul: OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for my Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives: Wow - how you've captured this! This is a masterclass in how to use contrast - it's practically painted with great blocks of the stuff. The hair is striking, driven into highlights and lowlights by the levels/curves you have used. The eyes would be too dark but the glimmer of a white in her right eye makes it just right, the pronounced background blur and of course the '66' - utterly compelling. The dutch angle and even the crop of the head it just right and of course you already know I'm going to appreciate the grain.
Critical stuff: Let's talk about the top left corner of the image - what is it? It's funny really, it looks distracting but if I mask it with my hand the image is diminished... a mark of of sublime 'crafting'. See what you've made me do with my 'critical stuff' bit!
Overall: Just perfect really, most people wouldn't be able to pull this image off - I wouldn't be able to, I'd doubtless over do some element - it would look clumsy in my editing hands. But you understand your work too well to make those errors. I just checked to see if it is on 1x.com. It isn't - but it should be. 10. |

Youthby gsalComment by Covert_Oddity: Great portrait, and nice processing to go along with it. My only complaint, and I think you're going to hear a lot of this, is the black object in the upper left hand side, which because of the simplicity of the rest of the shot, really grabs my attention and takes my focus away from the girl. |

Youthby gsalComment by M_Jayne: I really like the feel of this but the dark object in the upper left needs to be removed. |

Joy In Recessby gsalComment by dd1989: The Kodak sensor in the 500 has *something* that the 510 onwards just don't have, some people talk about it having the film-like "Olympus" colours. |
