Man-Made Rainbowsby stickeeComment by cardmaverick: Nice idea. My best tips for improving: Double check your focus, just because your focused to the right distance, doesn't mean that the image will be sharp. This is typically caused by too slow a shutter speed. Lighting. Probably the most import thing in photography, play around with it, reflective objects are hard, so start simple, maybe with a classic sphere approach. Take a white sphere and just light it in different ways, another great method is to light a mask. Exposure. Very important, this is probably what cuased those really hot white spots on the CD. Unless you want this look, avoid burning in white spots during the capture of a photo with a digital camera, unlike film, a digital photo tends to not hold much detail in the hightlights. With film, you would typically do whats called a "dodge" in printing, which effectively darkened a hot spot during printing, thus reavealing more detail in the highlight. You can't do this very well with digital photos since they have much less lattitude than film. How much depends on the camera's resolution, and what quality mode you shoot in. Backdrop. This is obviously an attempt at studio photography. You can select your backdrop, typically, simple is almost always a winner, patterned, well, thats like gray area and highly opinionated. From the look of this, its hard for me to tell because of the blurring, but it looks like a carpet type material. Definanly want to consider that next time. Hope this helps you out! |
