After challenge.. I did a little better than I thought I would. I noticed I posted the wrong lens, I used the tamron 28-75 2.8 and not the 70-200L. Oh well.

Wow looks like you are off to a good start, this being your first challenge you did a great job.

"Morning" is a good entry into Shallow DOF III because it is something different I am not a coffee or tea drinking so I would not thing of something like this. Interesting choice to go with black and white. I am guessing the colors would have been distracting and you choose to keep the image simple, which I think works well. I like the angle you are shooting at, we are not directly above or that straight on table shot. Just based on the comments you received it seems like the general voter population would have liked the whole cup in focus. I think it really is a challenge to determine which part stays in focus and ultimately it is up to us taking the photo.

Overall very nice work, especially for a first try! I really look forward to more of your photos.

I like the nostalgic feel of the image however feel the DOF chosen is a little too shallow. I think having the entire cup/saucer (at least the parts visible to the camera) in focus. Having a slightly deeper DOF would give definition to the background to show context and provide a bit more of a story.

Like the shallow DOF and the softness it gives to the cakes behind. The composition/ cropping does't work for me - particularly the way the cup is clipped at the left edge.
