I am not sure what you were your end idea was but I played with your photo with those layers, I hope you don't mind. I also saved it as .PSD file if you would like it, send me a PM. :)
Basically used the frame layer in linear dodge at 40% then used the brush with different opacities to bring out the face.
Used the meshy one with pin light at 25% and erased off the skin.
I made a new layer and put in color mode, then picked up a nice redhead color and painted her hair and the edge of the frame.
Hope you don't mind. Pm if you like the file or if you want me to remove the photo. :)

Nice shot. If you look at my challenge entries you'll find these guys and their caterpillars and their chrysalis feature a lot. I've got 50 swan plants on the deck and just love watching their progress. Boy are they hard on the plants though.

Cool shot, I like the texture used though I find the filmstrip a bit too much as it overlaps on the horse. Maybe if the strip part was in dead sapce so none of the picture was on that part it would be more believable as a negative. The tone used is perfect for the effect.
