Super Fun Time!by TomComment by Yo_Spiff: I love the expression of delight on her face! I predict you will get dinged some for the background, but I really like what you captured, regardless of the potential nitpicks. |

...a three hour tour... by TomComment by merkuri2: Great shot, but it's so coincidental that I was in this very spot shooting when the clean-up crew was picking up zillions of bits and pieces that was the remnant of the boat after it was broken up. I always wondered what the boat looked like before it met it's fate. |

...a three hour tour... by TomComment by Tom: Wow, thanks for all the nice comments! Finally won a blue!! :)
As for those who voted low and thought this photo didn't fit the challenge, the boat was shipwrecked and later destroyed. Here's the story:
The captain apparently purchased this shrimp boat one month ago and was new to the layout of this harbor, so at 2 in the morning he missed the entrance and the boat started getting pounded by the huge waves. The 5 crew members had to be rescued by the Coast Guard, and the 40' boat ended up where you see it here. By morning the waves had started breaking pieces off the boat, and a backhoe tried in vain to bring it to shore. (you can sorta see the rope where they are trying to pull it) The rope was a bad idea, and you can see where it has started to break a hole in the hull. The next day they had gotten nowhere, so they destroyed the boat and hauled it away in dump trucks. All the shrimp were later set free.
So for those who thought this didn't fit the challenge, it'd be nice to have the benefit of the doubt, and instead vote on the picture for its technical qualities. This is a fun site, and we're not all out to cheat and lie our way through challenges. :) |
