Showtimeby MarkBComment by h2: Good lighting and perspective, good representation of the art of Rock music. I find the crop to be a little close and the noise in the light s to be distracting |

2013 PAW - Week 1by MarkBComment by bassbone: Bright and cheerful.
The angle and size of the light source on the rind appears to generate too much shine and we lose a lot of great detail.

2013 PAW - Week 2by MarkBComment by ursula: Much better focus, light, and even colour! Maybe try a small white or gold reflector by your lens (use a white cardboard, cut a hole for the lens, put it on he front of the lens) to throw a bit of light on the front part of the rind. I like the detail in this one. |

2013 PAW - Week 1by MarkBComment by ursula: It's a great idea to get closer to your subject! In this case, I like how you show us just 1/4 of the slice, it's very recognizeable and yet almost something that you don't know what it is.
I think the technicals are lacking a bit in this photo. First, you're going at it from a bit to the side rather than straight on. Maybe that's on purpose, but, to my mind it isn't a sharp enough angle to look intentional and thus ends up looking a bit like a mistake. Your light is a tad on the harsh side, The focus is very narrow, and on the front edge of the slice. Most everything else is a blur. Blur is lovely, but, as before, it is lovely when it is intentional and deliberate. When it looks like a focusing issue, then it looks not so good. Maybe try a higher f stop, or go a bit further back to get a greater area of sharpness. Make sure you focus in the middle of the area you want in focus (talking front to back). Make sure your lens front is parallel to the subject for maximum sharpness.
Anyway. Macro photography can be great fun, I hope you have fun trying stuff out. |
