I think this is a great jump shot. The body position, the flying hair, and the facial expression all work together very well.

The problem is the background. You recognized this and used selective desaturation to get the girl to stand out from the background. This helped a bit but it does not really get rid of the problem--she is still about to get impaled on a tree trunk at a very uncomfortable spot. I also consider selective desat to be an overused gimmick and I usually rate images down unless there is a creative and compelling reason for the selective desat.

Would it have been possible for you to get lower when you were taking the shot so your subject would appear against the sky?

For a candid to work it should provoke some sort of emotional response in the viewer. Generally, there is an element of the unexpected or the subject is captured revealing a strong emotion,i.e., glee, anger, frustration. This just doesn't do any of those things for me.

I don't usually like comments or give them, but since candids are near and dear to my heart, I have decided to comment on every photo in this challenge.

This is ok. Not really great, but ok. Needed a tighter crop and a conversion to b/w or sepia for those facial features to really pop though. It's a 4 from me.

Real dark considering the composition of the shot including the stems and vase, maybe a tighter crop with a closer look at the flowers would work with this subtle lighting.
