a fun image of an intimate part of our lives. nicely. the lighting feels fluorescent, and perhaps this image would benefit from more aggressive processing.

Hey from the Critique Club :D

I am pondering whether i like the theme of this image or not. It certainly is an interesting and creative idea, i am just not 100% sure if it represents indipendance or a wayward warderer for me. I was going to say that my personal opinon does not really matter - but then i thought maybe others felt the same way and this lowered your overall vote. I'm not sure.

Technically speaking, the composition is nice, i enjoy the use of the diagonal lines (of the cards) contrasted with the circles at each end. This is a much more pleasent layout that seeing the card straight on. I appriciate that you didnt crop the rings reflection.
The lighting is a significant downfall in this image. When a person has an obviously staged photograph of a collection of objects, i personally expect them to set up the stage lighting also. I can understand the slight yellowing of the light, giving the seedy hotel atmosphere, but the balance of light in the image is off. The far left corner of the card looks almost blown out, the thing in front, an earing maybe? is in darkness so much that i am not sure what it is. Following with the lighting problems, i believe it resulted in the lack of sharpness in the image. The image lacks a crispness that really should be present in such a set up.
This lack of crispness makes me wonder why you chose a iso 400 and not a 50 or 100 since the details are the important part of this image. A smaller grained ISO would have been more approriate for such a set up.
That the photo was shot at a f16 is also interesting, because looking at the image, only the "call me" seems to be completelty in focus. This though is probably the result of poor lighting.

I cannot comment on the post processing, as you have not left any deatils. USM might have been of assitance however. You also might have liked to consider ajusting the curves so that the bottom left corner of the image was a more true black tofit the rest of the background.
