These eyes do not "say" despair to me...they look focused, interested, maybe like they are studying or something but they definitely do not look in despair. Maybe if you included something about why this individual is in despair it would help understand better.

YAY! I love docs... for a long time they were the only shoes I wear. I like your dof on this photo, it's a very interesting perspective and I think it might sell some copies. The one thing that bothers me is the white inbetween the two shoes. I think this is where my eye tends to go, and this takes away from the picture overall. Still very interesting angle, and nicely done.

LIGHTING - Excellent, no glare or odd focus.

SUBJECT - Very cute idea. Wonderful focus on the humorous "quotes"!

CROPPING - Great way to fill the page, but you might want to crop down just a tiny bit, ending at the top of the tin. It looks too much like there's something beyond the tin.

SCORING - I think the only reason this scored below a 6 was the limited interest of voters. Candy hearts are something we are all used to seeing at Valentines day, both in advertisements and in stores. As nice as this is, it might not have seemed "unique" to many voters. Don't take the score as a negative, though. It really is a very GOOD shot!
