Jay Likes Candy Too!!!by CreativeFlyPhotoComment by tomzinho: why have the hand in the photo. why not have jay and some candy in a photo, with a blank background where jay and the candy would really stand out together? is the red stuff in his mouth candy (are we supposed to figure this out?). its a great shot of jay. the hand, and the lack of obvious candy (bitten or unbitten) supply weakens it. |

Welcome to the Sunshine Stateby CreativeFlyPhotoComment by kiwiness: This is like one of those photos you'd find on travel magazines. The suns rays give a decent effect shining across the water like that, the sky in its many colors looks awesome. Nice natural framing using the plants. My only niggle would be that the sun is too centered in the image. I would have had it placed a third of the way over to the left or right. |

Play doh Piby CreativeFlyPhotoComment by inspzil: Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil
Composition - Overall composition of this photo is not particularly strong. Basically it just lacks anything terribly interesting, not that it is bad either. Just not too much dynamic about it. Colors are a nice contrast so that the pi symbol shows up good. I'm not sure why its resting on a muffin paper cup. I feel it meets the challenge. This is a pretty difficult concept to put on "film" so I sympathize with you that way. I did not enter.
Technical - A little overexposed for my tastes. Color representation is good. The DOF could've been better with a higher F-number which I feel is pretty important in this photo. I don't see any particular reason why the shallow DOF was used, but maybe there is one. Personally I'd have turned the aperture shut as much as possible and just really used a lot of light to compensate. It doesn't look like you were short on light at all.
Overall - Not a bad photo but it doesn't have the visual impact to really grab anyone and make them notice it. I don't really have much for suggestions without radically changing the composition of the photo. THe biggest advice I have is to turn the F-number up to allow the entire image to be in focus. That being said, I bid you farewell and best of luck in future challenges - Inspzil |
