fun picture, fun composition, i would like to see how this could have been with different lighting...it comes across as a snapshot with a flash used.

This doesn't exactly fit the criteria of complimentary colors if one looks back at the first challenge in the histories, BUT it is still bold, vibrant and just grabs your attention. The blues and yellow pairing is appealing to the eye. But I think that you could have played up more on just the color and shapes to make this a more abstract piece -rather than show it to be a portion of a cab car (IMHO it adds no appeal to the picture to see portions of the window and the upper portion of the hub of where the tire will rest - it just detracts from the color study you have going here) . I think it would have been more visually appealing if you had focused mainly on the lower left half showing the color blocks of blue and yellow along with the triangle shape created by the white lines - and it doesn't hurt that their exists a red sidelight triangle within a white line created triangle. And adding the red to a predominately blue and yellow color composition would have added a little punch of spice to an abstract piece.

This seems more like a snapshot to me. I think the box should have been closer to his body, and maybe showed more of the table and less of the background.

This si a good use of the architectural light and the subject light. I's not easy to get the good balance that you have. The little blocky thing bottom left is annoying but appreciate that you have no control over that and have not taken it into account in vote.

Flash / colour balance looks wrong - He has a blue tint to his face. Good the way you got the text in the background in focus.

John - This is what I would have enjoyed seeing more of on the challenge. With the diverse demographics, we could have shared so very many different realities. I recall driving through Israel, and Italy and the small coffee stops were priceless and REAL.

As for MRPRO's original comment, I think if he looks carefully he will find one of each of the things he wishes, but not enough of them. It appears that the majority of DP submitters are BOUTIQUE coffee shop goers.
Starbucks, espresso, carmel, six inches of whipped cream, two thousand dollar machines, all glass, modern architecture in obvious yuppy spots......somehow they do not define coffee shop for me. I wanted the photo that made me smell coffee, another country, think of sand on the floor, the job the person drinking the job may have done, the work involved in keeping it open, the storage rooms, the sticky floor, the heaped garbage cans, the patrons of years, the discussion over coffee, more things that gave me the spirit of the 'place.'

The topic did generate discussion and DP movers and shakers can consider many topics from this point forward...color and coffee, country and coffee, people and coffee, spirit and coffee, work and coffee....the concepts are endless and we may continue to interpret "coffee shop."

I found photos that met my own criteria of sight, sound, smell, taste, feeling......just not enough of them.
Thank you for generating the discussion MPRO and all!

This image really hits your retina (I suppose the object is designed just for that reason). I like the concept, the simplicity and the fact you have taken the opportunity (always a challenge when trying to get a good photo). Great shot.
